DescriptionWomen and men walk on the sidewalk and cross a city street. Commercial buildings are on Main Street at the right, and Pratt Street is in the left background. Some buildings have awnings. A utility pole is at the corner, and the wheels of a carriage are visible at the far left. Signs read: "Cook & Hills / Importer of / Dry Goods" "Dentist" "Dry Goods / 369" "Silks Warranted" "Sage, Allen & Co." "Hosiery Gloves Laces" "Dental Parlors / Dr. J. F. Doebler / Dentischer Zahnarzt" Merchandise displayed in shop windows includes bolts of fabric. A fire hydrant is at the left. Horse manure in near trolley tracks in the road. The stone building with round arches on the left side of Pratt Street is the Society for Savings.
NotesSubject Note: Cook & Hills, a dry goods store, was located at 359 Main Street. The proprietors were Charles W. Cook and Charles S. Hills.
John F. Doebler, a dentist, had an office at 371 Main Street and resided at 27 Florence Street.
In 1896, Sage, Allen & Co. was a dry goods store, located at 369 Main Street, and specializing in ladies' suits, shirtwaists, dress goods, underwear, linens, and housekeeping goods. The proprietors were Jerome E. Sage, Norman F. Allen and Clifford O. Moore.

Owner Note: The "M.C.T." inscribed on verso probably refers to Mary Curtin Taylor.
