DescriptionCoarsely quilted petticoat of cotton printed with a white, blue, red, yellow, and green vine pattern on a brown background. The lower half of the petticoat is quilted with a diamond grid pattern; above this, it is quilted with parallel vertical rows. The lower half of the petticoat is lined with olive/brown ombre silk, pieced together from garment scraps. The top half of the petticoat is lined with brown glazed cotton. The petticoat skirt is gathered into the plain cotton waistband, which is coarsely stitched over the gathering in front. The waistband opening is stitched with long ties of brown twill-woven cotton. The bottom edge of the petticoat is bound with brown cotton velveteen. The printed cotton fabric is reused from another garment, as is evidenced by uneven fading at seam lines, piecing, and a reverse-applique patch. The quilting is coarsely done with black thread at five to six stitches per inch.
