DescriptionQuilted petticoat of gold-brown ombre silk, with woven floral design. [Note: Interestingly, the silk is sewn with the back to the front, suggesting that it was recycled from a worn-out dress skirt that was cut apart and turned.] The petticoat is quilted in a diamond grid around the lower sixteen inches, and in parallel vertical lines above this. It is gathered into a tan cotton waistband. The backing fabric is a cylinder-printed brown cotton in a striped floral and fern design. The bottom edge is bound with black velvet. The quilting is done in ecru silk thread at seven stitches to the inch. A brown silk cord for tying the petticoat on (not original) is stitched to each side of the waistband opening.
