NotesSubject Note: Donor identified the sitter as James de Peyster Ogden, godfather of William James Hamersley, but Ogden was born about 1795 and would have been a much older man when this tintype was taken. The sitter strongly resembles the young man in another tintype, supposed based on minature taken in Paris, possibly in the 1820s or early 1830s. If this tintype dates from the 1860s, however, the two sitters cannot be the same. (Ruocco 3/17/2012)Mat is oval, with a design of grapes and grapeleaves in the border.
