DescriptionA scene from American history. General Gage, in uniform, stands at the right near an upholstered armchair. He is speaking to a group of young boys who stand on the left. Two boys, waving their hats, appear to be leaving through the door. Framed portrait paintings hang on the walls of the room. Two British soldiers are seated at a table. A third stands behind the door. A vase of flowers is on a mantle at the far right. Additional boys or men and large buildings are visible through a window with fringed curtains. Snow is on the ground.

NotesTechnique Note: Hand-coloring is very simple, including only red, blue, pale blue, and gold. It closely resembles the coloring in 1995.43.2 and 1950.85.0, two impressions of The Declaration of Independence.On View
