DescriptionFrame and brick commercial buildings line a city street. Some buildings have overhanging cornices, louvered shutters, awnings and shop windows. Signs read: "KELLER BRO[THERS] / DRY & FANCY [GOODS] / CLOAKS, SUITS..." "The / HOT... / Boud...? / THE HILSON CO. / MAKERS, N.Y." "ANTIQUE[S]" "BRUCKERS FRENCH [BAKERY]" "REMOVAL SALE / The Entire Stock Must Be Sold Before... / REGARDLESS OF COST" "KELLERS DRY GOODS" "REMOVAL SALE / FURNITURE COST PRICES" "CATHOLIC BOOK STORE" "UNDERTAKER" "IMPERIAL" "ALEX SMITH / HARNESS / REPAIRING / OF ALL KINDS". Utilitity poles and wires line the paved sidewalks. A street light, apparently a gaslight, hangs from a pulley. Trolley tracks are in the road. Barrels and snow are near the curb. Horse-drawn vehicles are in the left background. The steeple in the distance is part of the South Baptist Church. A leafless tree is in the left foreground.
NotesSubject Note: Daniel F. Keller and Edward F. Keller were the partners in Keller Bros.; they sold dry goods at 579 Main Street. According the the Hartford City Directory, Charles F. Brucker operated a bakery at 545 Main Street in 1898. Alexander Smith was a harnessmaker at 523 Main Street.
