DescriptionRailroad clerk Sigurd Ekwall, an elderly man wearing eyeglasses, and a lab coat over a white shirt and necktie, is shown at work at the railroad information booth in Union Station, Hartford. An overhead sign indicates the schedule for trains to and from New York, Springfield, and Boston. One sign shows "ALL TRAINS DELAYED" "THREATENED STRIKE POSTPONED FIVE DAYS - ALL TRAINS DELAYED"; others show trains running "ON TIME" or with short delays. Additional signs indicate "Eastern / Standard Time" or "DAYLIGHT SAVINGS". In some photographs, men women, and children crowd around the information booth. In others, Ekwall is shown with the actress Una Merkel and with two young women with name tags that read "GIRLS NATION." Some passengers carry suitcases. In one photograph, baggage handlers load trunks and suitcases into a freight car. Other photographs show Ekwall with his sister and with his wife Florida, whom he married late in life. They are shown dancing and embarking on a cruise beneath a sign that reads "Welcome Aboard."
