DescriptionThese photographs are of Meta Heinze Tatro. They are formal studio portraits and amateur photographs showing her as a young woman, a middle-aged woman, and in her old age. In some photographs she is in a garden, holding animals, and posed with other people.
NotesSubject note: 2006.49.57 is a formal studio portrait of Meta Heinze. Another copy of this photograph (2006.49.64) was hand-colored with watercolor and gouache

2006.49.59 and 2006.49.60 are two copies of the same formal studio portrait of Meta Heinze. 2006.49.59 was given to Amy Tatro by her mother and has an inscription on verso.

Meta Heinze was born in Sweden and moved to the United States in 1880. She came with her sister and they worked as maids for wealthy families around Hartford such as the Ponds. The Ponds House in Elizabeth Park is named after them. She married Alexander Tatro in 1900 and her daughter Amy was born in 1906. (1910 Federal Census, Hartford Courant: Sept 12, 2004)
