DescriptionPillbox-type purple hat, made of a collage of cut-out, deeply colored fabric flowers, bits of gold braid, and burgundy string. Iridescent strands under layers of purple net create a smooth surface but a dramatic visual texture. It is lined inside with pink acetate faille.
Label TextJacqueline Kennedy is often credited with popularizing the pillbox hat, one style of which is represented here. Although hats were no longer universally popular, many women still considered a hat the final touch for an outing and continued to wear them throughout the 1960s.
