DescriptionMen's white cotton canvas tennis shoes (.a and .b). The shoes lace up the center front with a white plaited cotton shoelace through six pairs of metal eyelets. The opening is spread approximately 1 1/2 inches wide and is backed with a matching canvas tongue. Two metal eyelets are set into the canvas on the side of each shoe, at the inside of the foot, to provide ventilation. Top stitched diagonal lines appearing on each side of the shoe in two groups of two provide reinforcement to the canvas. The laced edges are reinforced with a 7/8-inch-wide strip of white faux leather. The edges are bound with white cotton bias tape. The toes are reinforced with a white plastic cap. The heel stiffener is blue twill-woven cotton fabric. The shoes are unlined. The juncture of the canvas upper and the rubber sole is covered with a 1 1/2-inch-wide border of white rubber, with a red stripe in the center. The sock lining is blue and white plain-woven cotton, printed with declarations of various characteristics of the shoe (see "Marks").
Cardboard box (.c) and lid (.d) covered with cream colored paper. Stamped in blue ink at one end of the box, "G. FOX & CO./ HARTFORD * CONNECTICUT/ FOXBRAND/ QUALITY/ SCHOLASTIC SPC. OXFORD/ MENS WHITE/ MP648/ 12 MADE IN U.S.A. 8 M". A self-sticking paper price tag on the end of the box next to the printing reads, "G. FOX & CO./ HARTFORD * CONNECTICUT/ 25/11 AS5/ $4.39". There is a sales slip attached to the top of the box lid, addressed to Mrs. Richard Koopman.
