Ruth Ribicoff

Ruth (Siegel) Ribicoff was the wife of Connecticut Governor Abraham A. Ribicoff (1910-1998). She was born in Hartford, Connecticut on 17 January 1908 in Hartford, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Jacob Siegel (1885-1939) and Florence Siegel. She met her husband at a high school dance, and they were married on June 28, 1931. They had one son, Peter D. Ribicoff (1937-2013).

She graduated from Weaver High School and attended Highland Manor Junior College in New York. She worked at a doctor's office in Chicago while her husband was in law school. She was a member of the Hartford Children's Museum, Mt. Sinai Hospital Auxiliary, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the League of Women Voters. In 1959, she received the Mathilde Schecter Award from the National Women's Congress of the United Synagogues of America. She died on 12 April 1972 in Washington, DC of heart disease.
