Holly Fitzsimmons served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Connecticut. She was appointed to this position on June 4, 1993, and retired in April 2015.

Judge Fitzsimmons graduated from Smith College in 1971, where she majored in history. She went on to earn both her Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Legal History from the University of Virginia in 1976. Before her legal career, she worked as a newspaper reporter.

Her legal career began in 1976 at the law firm of Robinson & Cole in Hartford. In 1978, she joined the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut, where she held various roles including Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division, Lead Attorney for the New England Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force in Connecticut, Assistant-in-Charge of the Bridgeport Office, and Chief of Special Prosecutions.

Judge Fitzsimmons has been an active educator, teaching trial practice at Yale Law School for over two decades since 1992. She is also a member of the Federal Magistrate Judges Association and the Raymond Baldwin Inn of Court, and was a founding member of the Hartford Association of Women Attorneys. As a recalled magistrate judge, she continues to handle complex case management, settlement conferences, civil trials by consent, and pretrial criminal matters.
