BiographyOliver Filley was a farmer and tinsmith who served as a captain in the Connecticut militia during the War of 1812.

Filley was born in 1784, a son of farmer Oliver Filley, Sr., and his wife Tabitha. Upon the death of his father, Filley and his mother managed the family farm in Wintonbury (Bloomfield). In 1805, Filley married Annis Humphrey. They had seven children.

In 1806, Filley set up a tin shop on his property. This business proved quite lucrative, and he soon expanded this operation to include production and distribution centers outside of the state.

Filley died in 1846.
