The Stackpole Moore Tryon Company was founded in 1909 as a clothing and furnishing goods store for men by Joseph S. Stackpole, president; Harry B. Moore, secretary and treasurer; and T. Seymour Tryon, vice-president. The store was located in Hartford at 105-115 Asylum Street.

In 1956, Arthur L. Tryon, son of T. Seymour Tryon, was elected president of store. In 1976, Bill Tryon, grandson of T. Seymour Tryon takes over ownership. In 1989, the store moved to 242 Trumbull Street after William S. Tryon and Cynthia Gardner Lemery become co-owners. After Bill Tryon's death in 1995, Cynthia Gardner Lemery becomes the sole owner. In 2007, the store is purchased by M. Ronald and Jody Morneault, former owners of Tuesday’s (founded in 1970). In 2026, the store vacated its location at 242 Trumbull Street.
