BiographyCraige Lippincott was born on November 4, 1846 in Philadelphia, a son of Joshua and Josephine (Craige) Lippincott. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, after which he entered the family business, eventually succeeding his father as president of the J.B. Lippincott & Co. publishing house. He married Sallie Bucknell in 1871. Their children were Jay Bucknell Lippincott (1872-1920), Josephine Lippincott (b. 1874), and Constance Lippincott (1883-1947).
On April 6, 1911, Craige Lippincott died of a gunshot wound to the head, in either an accident or a suicide.
