Mariano Cortez

Mariano Cortez was born on 10 April 1931 in Cidra, Puerto Rico. He moved to Connecticut in 1953. Mariano opened Cortez Clothing & Jewelry in 1962 becoming one of the first Hispanic merchants in Hartford. Mariano was one of the founding members of the Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA) and a member of the Sacred Heart Church. He was very involved in the Hartford Hispanic community and sponsored several little league baseball teams over the years. He died on 3 December 2012.
