Colonel Vincent Meigs Wilcox

BiographyVincent Meigs Wilcox was a colonel in the Civil War. Born in Madison, Connecticut, on October 17, 1828, the son of Deacon Zenas and his second wife Lovisa (Meigs) Wilcox. He was a colonel of the 132nd Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers and later a comrade of the Lafayette Post, No. 140, of the GAR (Department of New York), a Companion of the New York Commander Military Order of the Loyal Legion, a member of the Society of the Army of the Potomac, and a member of the Regimental Association of the 132nd Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was also the president of E. & H.T. Anthony & Co. and an elder in the Presbyterian church.
He married his first wife, Catherine Millicent Webb, on June 17, 1855. Webb was the daughter of Reynold Webb of Madison. He married his second wife, Martha Fannie Dowd of Madison, daughter of George Dowd, on November 27, 1866. She died on March 20, 1873. Wilcox married his third wife, Elizabeth Bogert Welles, the daughter of Harmon K. Welles, on November 17, 1875. He had two children with his first wife, and one child each with his second and third wives. He died on May 9, 1896, and is buried in the West Cemetery in Madison, Connecticut.
