Abraham Alexander Ribicoff was born in 9 April 1910 in New Britain, Conneciticut. He was the son of Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants from Poland, Abraham A. Ribicoff and Rose Sable Ribicoff. He was a laywer and became a political leader in Connecticut. He entered politics in the Connecticut State House of Representatives, where he served 2 terms from 1949-1953. He was Governor of Connecticut 1955-1961, Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare 1961-1962, and was United States Senator from Connecticut 1963-1981. He died 22 Febuary 1998 and is buried in Cornwall, Connecticut.
