DescriptionSmall, buff-colored stoneware pitcher with translucent, dark brown glaze, a type of ceramic known as Rockingham ware. The pitcher has an upward-curved spout at the plain rim, fluted, concave sides, and a flat, inset bottom. An angular, molded and applied handle attaches to the pitcher just below the rim and just above the bottom. Raised decoration in the shape of grapes and large leaves on a short stem decorates most of the flutes on the sides of the pitcher. Overall, the dark brown glaze has an uneven appearance and reveals much of the buff-colored, almost yellow, stoneware below. There is extensive crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the pitcher; most of the crazing appears as dark lines.
