DescriptionSixth-plate daguerreotype of a young woman, possibly a member of the Scoville or Calhoun families.
Object number1976.120.6
NotesSubject note: The sitter in this daguerreotype was identified as Betsey Scoville Calhoun, but the likely date of this image makes that impossible. The object file's label identifies her as Besey Scoville Calhoun's daughter, but it doesn't seem that Mrs. Calhoun had a daughter. Various sources online suggest that Henrietta Maria Scoville Napier was Betsey Calhoun's daughter, but as Napier's father was William Scoville, Betsey's brother, that seems extremely unlikely. It is more likely that Henrietta's mother was Elizabeth "Betsey" Pratt. However, the identification of the young woman in this daguerreotype is still unknown.Subject Terms
