DescriptionGraniteware pitcher with transfer-printed red overglaze enamel and hand-painted blue overglaze enamel. The pitcher swells from an oval base to a narrower neck, with an ice guard at the spout. The ice guard is a panel with three holes to restrain the ice while allowing liquid to run out the spout. The spout, guard, and foot are outlined in blue overglaze enamel, as is the molded and applied handle. The front of the pitcher, below the spout, reads "S. L. Pewtress", with an embellished line below. There are two different red enamel classical scenes that are transfer printed on each side of the pitcher. Both show a woman reclining on a rock. The woman to the left of the spout holds a tambourine in the air and plays with cherubs. The woman to the right of the spout holds a scarf in the air with her left hand, while her right hand holds reigns that are connected to a dolphin in water. The pitcher has fine crazing over all the surfaces.

MarkingsPresentation name painted beneath the spout in blue, "S. L. Pewtress".Maker's mark transfer-printed on the bottom of the pitcher, in underglaze black enamel. The center section of the mark has the words "RUSTIC/ COPYRIGHT" over an eagle. To the left of the eagle is the number "18", and to the right, the number "76". Underneath the eagle, the mark continues "BY/ PLINY FISK". The word "STONE" is oriented vertically to the left of the mark, and the word "CHINA" is oriented vertically to the right.
