DescriptionWoman's skirt with a train made of cotton printed with a fern-like design in green and light blue on white. The bottom edge of the skirt is cut in tabs with a narrow binding of brown cotton, cut on the bias. The skirt is flat in front and around the hips. It is closely gathered for about nine inches across the center back. The waistband closes with a single white ceramic button. There is an in-seam pocket on the right side, covered by a flap of the skirt fabric bound with the brown cotton. A horizontal pleat is taken in each side back seam near the bottom of the skirt, and again about twelve inches from the waistband. There are remnants of tan wool tape inside the skirt, perhaps for pulling the skirt back up into a bustle (although the tapes are poorly stitched and may be a later alteration).
