DescriptionCherry and maple dressing table in the Queen Anne, or late baroque style. The top has ovolo, or thumbnail, molding on four sides. The drawer arrangement consists of three drawers; the center drawer is shallower than the two side drawers, which are of equal height. The drawers are outlined with applied double astragal molding. The front apron has a high central arch flanked by drop pendants (replaced) and a double cyma curve, or S-curve. A cock bead is applied to the underside of the front and side aprons. The maple cabriole legs are slender, and each ends in pad foot supported by a truncated cone. Hardware includes a blind brass lock escutcheon with a bail pull on the center drawer. The side drawers each have a single brass escutcheon with a bail pull.

Condition: The dressing table has been dismantled and resassembled. The top has been replaced and attached with screws. Portions of the cock beading are missing, most notably on the front and right apron. The drop pendants have been replaced. At least one brass has been replaced.

Design and Construction Details: The top consists of three boards joined with a butt joint. The case is made with mortise-and-tenon construction; the backboard is tenoned into the leg posts. There is no rail above the drawers. Full-depth, wedge-shaped drawer dividers form the vertical partitions, which are hidden behind double astragal molding. Single medial drawer runners are tenoned into the backboard. Each drawer runner has a drawer stop, in the form of a wooden block, at the back. The drawer sides are chamfered at the top. The drawer bottoms are nailed to the sides and back of each drawer, and each fits into a rabbet at the front. The dovetails are widely spaced.
