DescriptionRound mug of cream-colored earthenware, a type of ceramic known as creamware. The mug has a flat bottom, vertical sides, and a pulled and applied handle opposite a transfer-printed black enamel design. Above the design is a banner reading "THE BUTCHERS ARMS". The design consists of a shield, divided into two sections by a horizontal line. Above the line is a boar's head and two keys, and below are three heads of horned animals and two axes. The shield is surrounded by vines and leaves above and below, and there is a griffin on either side. Below the design a banner contains the following Latin phrases "OMNLASUBJECISTI SURPEDIBUS OVES ET BOVES." There is a hairline crack to the left of the handle and some crazing above the design. There are some areas of slight discoloration over the surfaces of the mug.
