DescriptionA large grey house with a central stone chimney and multiple windows stands prominently at the center of the drawing bordered by stone walls. In the same enclosure to the right is a small red structure with large semi-open wooden doors and a smaller dark structure to the side. To the left of the main grey house are three tall, lush trees and a black and white house. Multiple paths lead directly to and from the houses. The landscape is vividly verdant.
Verso is painted many shades of greens and has the outlines of a man wearing a black jacket.

MarkingsOn verso, stamped in black ink, "American Primitives / by Lou Frink / Windham, Conn. No. 87"InscribedOn verso, upper right, in pencil, "Untitled "Grey House and Red Barn""[pencil written notes are NOT Lou's]NotesThe composition and drawing of the scene resemble Lou's "East Street Windham, Conn. About 1879 (1973.25.19)" drawing but depicted from a different angle. Perhaps it is a different view of the same street, with the red building being Rufus Rood's blacksmith shop and its shed on the right. If so, since the large grey house is in the same stone enclosure/border as the red structure, perhaps it is Rufus' house, which Lou notes as being next to the shop.
