DescriptionRound, buff-colored stoneware jug with a grey salt glaze on the exterior. The jug has a flat base with cylindrical sides that taper gradually to form a fairly narrow rim. A cork is still present in the rim. A pulled strap handle connects the rim with the shoulder of the jug. Opposite the handle, below the rim, is the stamped name "JOHN HiCKEY/ Willimantic/ Conn". These letters are lightly colored with cobalt blue. Below the stamp is a thickly-applied cobalt blue decoration showing a single, graceful, abstract rose. There are many imperfections in the glaze and ceramic, especially at the shoulder on either side of the handle. There is one chip in the foot of the jug.
