DescriptionAmerican flag consisting of thirteen stars and 13 red and white stripes formerly flown over the U.S.S. Hartford. The flag consists of 13 alternating red and white horizontal wool stripes hand-sewn together. There is a red stripe at the top and bottom of the flag, with the canton resting on a white stripe. The canton is a single piece of blue wool hand-sewn to the stripes, containing 13 appliquéd white cotton stars. The stars are hand sewn to the canton in horizontal rows of four- five- four, with the orientation of the points being vertical. The header is sewn to the hoist end of the flag and contains a rope running through it with a wooden toggle at the top end of the rope.
