DescriptionWoman's dress, possibly for evening wear, made of ecru silk with woven stripes figured with stylized foliate motifs. The neckline is wide, and a V-shaped decoration of narrowly pleated ecru satin from the center of the waistline and over the shoulders (front and back) emphasizes the shoulder width. The neckline is also finished with narrowly pleated satin. The sleeves are short and puffed. Similar pleated satin decoration extends over the sleeves in an inverted V from the shoulderline to the sleeve openings, which are also finished with the satin. The armscyes, shoulder seams, and curved side back seams are piped with the satin. The dress closes at the center back with hooks and eyes. The bodice is lined in the back and at the sides, and the waist seam is stabilized by stitching through a woven linen tape. The skirt, which is gored at the sides, is flat in front and over the hips; it is gathered at the center back for a width of about 5 1/2 inches. The silk fabric is sheer, so that the blue stripe woven at the selvages is visible running the length of the skirt seams.
