DescriptionView of Mary Pierson Cheney standing on the brick front porch of a large house. She is wearing a dress that is edged with lots of lace. Her arms are both raised and her head is turned to look at a short stick or wand that she is holding in her right hand. There are two chairs sitting on the porch behind her, under a portico, on either side of the front entrance.The house has double doors, which are closed. There is a lantern hanging from the roof of the portico.

A sign in film 1985.113.2 describes the costume as a "TEA GOWN". A copy of the photograph located in an album (1991.28.10.408) has the hand-written caption, "May. Boudoir." The costume was made out of Cheney silk for an international silk show.
