DescriptionDark blue superfine wool broadcloth frock coat. The coat buttons up the center front to the neck with nine brass shank buttons; these buttons have a design of a shield surmounted by a spread-winged eagle, between the words "HARTFORD" and "POLICE". The collar is two inches wide. The wrists of the coat sleeves have three lighter blue stripes set on the diagonal, above three smaller brass buttons. Three straight thread loops are stitched over the proper left breast, to hold the police badge. A pocket is set into the waist seam on the proper right side.
The skirts in back have a faux pleat on either side of the center back vent. The "pleats" are constructed as an extension of the curved side back seams. Each "pleat" is decorated with a brass button stitched to a triangular flap extending from the seam. Buttons also decorate the top of the pleats.
The coat is lined with a black silk/cotton sateen lining, much of which is stitched by hand. A pocket is set into the lining on both sides of the chest, and in the back of the skirts. The sleeves are lined with white and blue striped cotton.
