Presenting the cup was Store Superintendant James F. Morrissey, who said: "We are here today to do honor to one of Hartford's best and finest citizens, who is second to none as a merchant, a man and an employer. The handsome eleven-story building in which we stand has been erected during the past year in the face of unusual obstacles and discouragements. These, however, have been overcome; and the new building of G. Fox & Co. is a credit and an adornment to the city. Mr. Fox, I take great pleasure in presenting to you, on behalf of the executives and buyers of the firm, this loving cup as a token of their loyalty and affection, and this horseshoe wreath, the emblem of good luck for G. Fox & Co." The cup, covered with an American flag, was then unveiled. (newspaper article in accession file, 10 April 1918)
