DescriptionFrye family coat of arms worked in shades of medium and light blue, blue-green, pink, black, tan, khaki, and cream silk threads on a cream satin-woven silk ground, using a satin stitch and other stitches. At the top, a black eagle with outstretched wings sits atop a knight's helmet. This is flanked by coiled red flowers and leaves on a blue-green vine. Below the helmet is a shield-shaped device containing three horses on a field of green. The shield is flanked by leaves on a fine. Beneath the shield are three banners containing the words "BY THE", "NAME OF", and "FRYE"; these words are made in black silk thread. The embroidery is hand-stitched on satin-woven cream colored satin (now creased and shattered). The satin is whip-stitched at the edges to a plain-woven linen ground.

Stitches: The principal stitch on the sampler is satin; it also includes encroaching satin.

Condition: The ground is badly shattered and creased. The silk threads are faded. The backing is yellowed and stained.
