DescriptionA middle-aged man is seated in a side chair beside a drop-leaf table. He is wearing a shirt, vest, coat, breeches, stockings, and shoes with buckles. His ankles are crossed and he holds a quill pen in his right hand, which rests on a sheet of paper, inscribed with the words "July 5th 1795". A second piece of paper, in his left hand, is inscribed "Execution [?] / [Pounds] 10.10.0". A diapered carpet or floorcloth is on the floor. The window behind him is open and the curtains are tied back. Fields and trees and what appears to be a body of water are visible through the window.
