DescriptionTwo-gallon, grey, stoneware jug (a) with a salt glaze on the exterior, brown slip glaze, or Albany type glaze, on the interior, and cobalt blue decoration. The jug has a short cylindrical neck, rounded shoulder, a cylindrical body, and a flat bottom. To one side, a pulled strap handle connects the neck and shoulder of the jug; an incised line circles the jug just below the handle. Opposite the handle is an impressed mark: "S. L. PEWTRESS/ NEW HAVEN CT/ 2". The mark is highlighted with cobalt blue decoration. Below the mark is an inscription in cobalt blue: "G [?] Thompson [?]/ West Winsted./ Conn". The jug is accompanied by a short, tapered cork (b) that is made wider by a band of tape. There are a few minor irregularities in the glaze and a large chip in the neck of the jug, to the left of the handle.
