DescriptionA boy sits on a low, grassy hill. He wears a smock, trousers with patches on the knees, stockings, and what appear to be wooden shoes. He holds an object, possibly a piece of bread, in his right hand. With his left hand, he points at the nose of a black and white dog, seated at the left. The dog is balancing a small piece of food, possibly a nut, on his nose. A second child is in the background. A warming pan and a piece of cloth are in a basket in the right foreground. A rail fence or gate is in the left background. High, dark hills are in the distance.
