DescriptionRound, grey, ovoid salt-glazed stoneware jug with a wide band, or collar, at the rim. A pulled strap handle connects the neck of the jug to the shoulder. Opposite the strap is the only decoration on the jug. It consists of a stamped maker's mark of "S*T Brewer/ NEW.LONDON/ " over a large number "1". Below this is an incised, sinuous, curved leaf. Cobalt blue has been applied to the leaf and both ends of the handle. An orange paper tag attached to the base of the handle, reads, "JUG/ STEPHEN/ BREWER/ CAT # 82". The remnants of four spots of white wax are adhered to the bottom of the jug. There is one chip at the foot of the jug.

MarkingsThere is one stamped mark on the jug, opposite the handle below the neck, reading, "S*T Brewer/ NEW.LONDON/ 1". An orange paper tag attached to the base of the handle, reads, "JUG/ STEPHEN/ BREWER/ CAT # 82" in hand-written ink letters. A portion of a rectangular white paper label with a red border is adhered to the bottom of the jug. "$25.00" is hand-written in black ink on the paper label.
