DescriptionOvoid, stoneware jug with a salt glaze on the exterior. The jug has a flat bottom and gently swelling sides that narrow gradually at the shoulder to form a narrow, wide band, or collar, rim. A pulled strap handle connects the neck and shoulder of the jug, and an incised line circles the bottom of the neck. Opposite the handle is an impressed mark, "GOODWIN/ &/ WEBSTER". Cobalt blue has been hand-painted over the mark and at both ends of the handle. A cork rests firmly in the rim and neck of the jug. The salt glaze has many imperfections, most noticeably to the lower left of the mark, where the glaze is thickly applied, is uneven, and has a grey textured surface in places. Some of the cobalt blue has flaked off the areas at the top and bottom of the handle. Overall, the glaze is lightly crazed. There is a crack running from the foot of the jug up the side, to the lower left of the handle.
