DescriptionTin-glazed earthenware shaving basin with hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration. The shaving basin has a wide rim, deep, round well, and a short foot ring; a curved portion of the rim is cut away and has a finished edge. There are two punched holes in the middle of the rim, to one side; the interior surface of the holes are glazed. The shaving basin is hand-painted with underglaze cobalt blue. The wide rim and deep well is decorated with a geometric pattern of flowers, fruit, and leaves. A border, where the rim meets the well, consists of a pattern of arches with a line inside. There are three stilt marks on the bottom of the rim.
There are many chips of glaze and earthenware missing from the outer edge of the rim. There is one small chip and one larger area of loss missing from the foot ring.
