DescriptionSmall, round, lidded mustard pot of cream-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The mustard pot (.a) has a line of machine-molded border just below the rim. The border is a band of indented ceramic with a line of shell-edge decoration inside. This has been colored with a line of green, underglaze color, perhaps applied by hand. The cup also has a small, molded and applied handle, also decorated with a line of hand-painted underglaze green. The lid (.b) is decorated in a similar fashion, with the same machine-molded green border as the cup located inside the rim. The lid also has a small, nearly-round finial that was formed in a mold and applied to the center of the lid. The finial has also been colored with a dash of green. The lid has a semi-circular indentation at the rim, meant to accommodate a spoon.
The lid has a large area of loss on the rim, opposite the indentation for a spoon. There is some crazing on the lid and the bottom and inside surfaces of the cup, where the glaze pooled during manufacture.
