DescriptionPair of square earthenware tiles, each made of different colored earthenware and glaze. On each tile, the glazes are textured to give the appearance of slight crazing and depth. Tile .1 consists of a dark red earthenware with an opaque, matte, maroon glaze. The back of tile .1 is rough and has three curved incised lines. Tile .2 consists of a buff-colored earthenware with an opaque, matte, blue-green glaze. The back of tile .2 is relatively smooth.

MarkingsEach tile has a different mark for the Hartford Faience Company.
Tile .1 has an impressed mark of "HARTFORD" over the word "FAIENCE" inside a diamond. Tile .2 has a mark of raised letters reading, "HARTFORD/ TRADE/ FAIENCE/MARK/ TILE"; the word "FAIENCE" is inside a raised diamond.
