DescriptionRound dinner plate of buff-colored earthenware with a blue-tinted glaze, a type of ceramic known as pearlware. The plate is decorated with a transfer-printed underglaze cobalt blue pattern and border. The pattern, in the center of the plate, shows a waterfall connecting two bodies of water. In the foreground, a man holding a walking stick stands and looks out over the water. To the left are two seated women, one of whom holds a parasol. To the right, two cows graze in the grass. On the far side of the waterfall, a stone building sits on a section of land that sticks out into the water. The building may be a ruin, as only a tower and arches remain. A small village sits on the far shore, and mountains fill the far distance. Trees frame the pattern, which is surrounded by a narrow border of small white circles with blue dots inside. In turn, this is surrounded by a border at the rim, consisting of white flowers and dark blue leaves on a field of light blue. Finally, there is another border of small white circles with blue dots inside at the outer edge of the rim. There are many light scratches on the top surface of the plate, and three small stilt marks at the outer edge of the rim.
