DescriptionRectangular, Chinese export porcelain platter with canted corners and hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration showing a Chinese landscape. The landscape consists of a willow tree with a Chinese structure and fenced-in yard to the right. The tree overlooks a small figure fishing in a river, where a Chinese junk floats. There are houses and hills in the distance. The central landscape is surrounded by four borders. The first is a series of blue lines creating a diamond, or lattice, pattern, surrounded by a narrow field of white. This is surrounded by a border of geometric shapes intersperced with floral shapes, butterflies and diaper work patterns; this is known as the "Fitzhugh" border. The "Fitzhugh" border is surrounded at the rim by a line of circles, each with a white center and blue dot inside. There is a large chip at the upper right edge.
