DescriptionLandscape compositions appear to include studies for oil paintings or watercolors. Subjects include dirt roads, houses, ponds, streams, reflections in water, fields, fences, sailing vessels, haystacks, storm clouds. Trees include leafless trees and cedar trees. One drawing shows a steam engine drawing a train across an iron railroad bridge. Another depicts the Mohonk Mountain House, a large hotel on a lake. A third is of a pond and footbridge in Hubbard Park, Meriden (2004.52.180). Another is of an industrial city with a factory and smokestack, possibly New Britain or Hartford.

On verso:
2004.52.185 inscribed, "Mem for spring scene - from Father". 2004.52.192 inscribed, "This sky was the most magnifient of its kind I ever have seen..." 2004.52.193 inscribed at upper right, "Don't make these clouds too dark" "Take out the stump" etc. 2004.52.195 inscribed at lower left, "Portland Ct bridge". 2004.52.205 inscribed at upper left, "Laws against promiscuous use of air guns - [illegible] rifles". All drawings have accession number inscribed at lower right, in pencil.
