Object number2001.18.9
NotesTechnique Note: This is directly based on a daguerreotype by Augustus Washington in the collection of the Connecticut Historical Society, X.1960.193.1. However, this photomechanical reproduction includes parts of the image that are hidden by the nonpareil mat of the daguerreotype, suggesting that the daguerreotype was removed from its case when the photomechanical reproduction was made. The oval frame visible in the photomechanical reproduction differs from the mat of the original daguerreotype and may be an earlier mat or may have been added by Hollinger & Co. for aesthetic reasons.
