DescriptionPieced quilt made from scraps of silk hat linings in various shades of red, green, white and brown. The quilt consists of many blocks, each consisting of a monochromatic on-point square constructed of triangles that is surrounded at each corner by a triangle. Each triangle is constructed of six to seven strips of silk. The blocks are surrounded by a deep red velvet border. The quilt is finished front to back and tied on the backing only. The backing consists of twill-woven silk. Both the silk and velvet fabrics are woven from silk on a cotton base.

Condition: Some silk has worn or shattered. The velvet border is well worn.

NotesHistorical Note: Anna T. McConnell Schuldice made this quilt from scraps of hat linings from her husband's hat making firm, Beckerle & Co., of Danbury, Connecticut. Her husband, Joseph Hermann Schuldice, formed the company in 1875 with William Beckerle, Charles H. Peix, and Thomas F. Fay.

Maker Note: Anna T. McConnell Schuldice (b. 1856) and her husband, Joseph Hermann Schuldice (1852-1894), lived with their children at 112 Liberty Street in Danbury, Connecticut.
