InscribedThe ribbon consists of four vertical panels. The top of the first panel reads, "YOUNG MEN'S/ WHIG NATIONAL/ CONVENTION OF RATIFICATION." The second panel reads, at top, "HENRY CLAY", and at bottom, "THE TRIED FRIEND OF/ HIS COUNTRY." The top of the third panel reads, "THE FARMER OF ASHLAND." And the top of the fourth panel reads, "HELD IN/ BALTIMORE/ MAY 2nd 1844."

Inscribed below the maker's name and address, at the bottom of the ribbon, is, "Entered according to the act of Congress in the year 1844, by John Medairy in the Clerk's office of the District of Maryland."
