DescriptionCherry stand in the late Chippendale or early Federal style. The square top has light wood inlay; there is a line of inlay at the top edge and in a square just inside the edge. Each corner of the inlay square has an inlaid fan. The stand has a baluster-shaped pedestal, over a cylindrical base and three cabriole legs each ending in a plain foot with a pad on the bottom. The base of the pedestal has two pairs of incised lines, and a carved lower edge consisting of a cyma curve, or S-curve, and a reverse cyma curve between each leg.

Condition: The stand has been refinished. There is a scratch on the top surface of the stand.

Design and Construction Details: The top is made from a single board and is screwed to a rectangular cleat from the underside. The pedestal is tenoned into the cleat. Each leg is dovetailed to the base of the pedestal. An iron plate, in the shape of a tripod, is nailed to the underside of the pedestal base, where the legs join the base.
