Inscribed"Benj. Cheney - Hartford" engraved above the dial.

A label inside the door of the clock reads, "Benjamin Cheney, son of Benjamin (who came from Newbury) was born in Hartford (East Hartford) 1725. died 1815. Brother Timothy b. 1731. Timothy was G.G. Grandfather of Louis Cheney. Clock built about 1760. Bought at Amherst c. 1908".
