DescriptionAn elderly man at the left is dancing a jig as he plays a fiddle or violin. He wears a coat, a striped vest, a shirt, breeches, and stockings. He stands on his left toe with his right leg raised. At the right, a young child, presumably a girl, also stands on her left toe with her right leg raised. She wears a high-waisted dress with short sleeves, an apron, shoes, and stockings. A fringed shawl and a broad-brimmed straw hat trimmed with ribbon hang on the wall behind her. A round pot or jar and two bottles are on a shelf above. A woman stands in front of a large open fireplace with a huge chimney in the left background. She wears a dress and hat. A heavy beam is visible in the corner of the room in the right background; wide floor boards are visible in the foreground.
