Description(a) Audio file of interview with Andrew McCauley. He was interviewed by Maria McCauley on October 19, 2025 in Windsor, Connecticut. (b) Photograph of Andrew McCauley provided at his interview.

Andrew McCauley was interviewed as part of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History's Community History Project discussing moments of change in his life.

During this interview, Andrew identified the birth of his first child as a moment of changein his life. He was only 23 when he became a father, and he talks about how his age and financial situation affected this moment. He and his girlfriend were ecstatic to become parents. Many family members were supportive, though some wish he and his girlfriend had been married first. He had no idea what to expect as a new parent, never even having held a baby before, so they bought many unnecessary products.

Becoming a parent helped Andrew move away from immature friendships and partying. It also helped him gain respect for other parents. Andrew had to work a lot to provide for his new family, resulting in not seeing his baby as much as he would have liked. Andrew learned a strong work ethic from his own father. As Andrew's daughter aged, he had to grapple with leaving her alone at daycare with people who were not family. Later, having his second and third children were much-less nerve-wracking times. He encourages young parents to stay tough and appreciate every stage of parenting.

NotesSubject Note: The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History’s Community History Project (CHP) is a public-facing initiative, focused on contemporary collecting, gathering items of the recent past as well as from events happening today. This program developed community historians to identify, document, and preserve their experiences as residents of Connecticut, and to share these experiences during a series of community presentations. The project focused on the theme "Redefining Moments of Change." Conneticans share stories of people or events who have changed their lives or how they have sparked change in the lives of others.
